Local SEO Checklist

How a small business gets found by nearby customers on Google — the whole thing, in order, with no jargon.

Claim your listings (free)

Google Business Profile — claimed, verified, fully filled out
Apple Business Connect — so you show on Apple Maps, Siri and Spotlight
Bing Places — feeds Bing and Copilot
Facebook Page + Yelp — claimed with the same info

Get your NAP identical everywhere

Pick one exact Name, Address, Phone format and write it down
Use that identical format on your site, every listing, and social
Fix any old or wrong listings that show a different number/address
Put your real business info in your website footer

On your website

LocalBusiness structured data with your address and hours
A page (or section) for each main service you offer
City/area names used naturally in your headings and copy
A Google Map embed of your location on the contact page
Fast, mobile-friendly pages (local searches are mostly on phones)

Reviews (the biggest lever)

Ask every happy customer for a Google review — a simple link works
Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm professional tone
Never buy or fake reviews (it violates the rules and the law)
Aim for a steady trickle, not a burst — that looks natural

Keep it fed

Post to your Google Business Profile a couple times a month
Publish the occasional helpful local article or FAQ
Get listed in a few real local directories and your chamber
Check quarterly that no listing has drifted out of sync
If you only do three things: claim your Google Business Profile, make your name/address/phone identical everywhere, and ask happy customers for reviews. That's most of local SEO right there.
